Natasha’s Living Food - A Tasting

Tuesday, 23 February 2010 14:23:37 Europe/London

This Saturday (27th Feb) we will be hosting a product tasting of the Natasha’s Living Food range from 12 noon until 3pm.

Natashas Living Food LogoNatasha’s Living Food range has a variety of delicious products including both sweet and savoury treats, made with raw foods and superfoods. All of Natasha’s products are free of gluten, wheat and refined sugar, and are 100% vegan. Amongst the delicacies you can experience at Natasha’s food tasting are – humous with herbs & spices, superfood raw chocolates, savoury spiced crackers, nutritious energy bars and cheesy kale crunches.

The Raw and Living foods movement is a diet based on naturally grown wild or organically and sustainably raised fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and sprouted grains.

Natasha’s range of Raw and Living foods are completely free of animal products, and chemically processed or pasteurised ingredients. The range uses fairly-traded ingredients wherever available, and also uses organic ingredients. Many of Natasha’s products also contain superfoods.

Most importantly, during the preparation of raw food dishes, nothing is cooked, at least in the traditional sense. Raw foods contain live enzymes that aid digestion, which activate as they are consumed. Heating foods to high temperatures causes those enzymes to die, and destroys nutrients, minerals, amino acids and vitamins, and alters the natural metabolic structure of the food. The beauty of raw foods is that the ingredients are very simple. Because nothing is processed, everything comes in its raw, natural state.

Feel free to drop by and try out some of the tasty nibbles we'll have on display. Not sure where we are? - here's a page with a map!

Fair Trade Fortnight - The Big Swap

Monday, 22 February 2010 09:10:00 Europe/London

We are taking part in the promotion of Fairtrade Fortnight, which runs from 22 February – 8 March 2010. This year’s theme is ‘The Big Swap’.

To take part in The Big Swap we want people to buy and think fair trade – by swapping your usual cup of tea or coffee for a fair trade cup of tea or coffee, or swapping your usual chocolate or biscuits for fair trade chocolate or biscuits.

In Healthwise we are offering 10% off our full range of Fairtrade products for the duration of Fairtrade Fortnight.

Fairtrade is all about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. It requires companies to pay sustainable prices, which must never fall lower than the market price. Fairtrade also includes progress requirements that encourage continuous improvement to develop farmers' organisations or the situation of estate workers.

By imposing these standards Fairtrade addresses the injustices of conventional trade, which traditionally discriminates against the poorest, weakest producers. It enables them to improve their position and have more control over their lives.

Come visit us at Lower Abbeygate Street, Galway during Fairtrade Fortnight to avail of our special offers and swap your products for Fairtrade product. Also see our Fair Trade page for details of items we are promoting.

You should also have a read about Fairtrade Fortnight and what they are doing to promote it

Upcoming Fairtrade Fortnight - The Big Swap

Friday, 19 February 2010 10:31:45 Europe/London

From Monday next, Fairtrade fortnight kicks off with the theme of "The Big Swap" - you can find out more on the (very nice) campaign site.

Why Swap?

Swapping your usual stuff for Fairtrade stuff is a brilliantly small step to making the world a fairer place. It means that you get to show your support for developing world producers through what you buy. Two billion people - a third of humanity - survive on less than $2 a day. Unfair trade rules keep them in poverty, but they face the global challenges of food shortages and climate change too. [Source]

....or you could swap your chocolate:

As part of the event, we'll be running promotions on lots of Fairtrade products. Check back on Monday for a full listing of how we're going to help you make the Big Swap
